BCC Strategy and Tools

IEC material development and behavior change communication at HST is done through strategic communication interventions that were well founded on community needs and involvement of those most affected. The HST made use of participatory learning and action methods, which involved community members mapping the problem and then working around them. The involvement of target population at various stages of BCC development process was recognized as a vital need. It became the key to greater acceptability of the strategies / material developed, the communities engagement was most important during profiling, conceptualizing and testing steps of each of the material developed.

All IEC material developed is carefully scrutinized and pretested and continuously updated through a community led process. The street theatre group of HST regularly performs on various sites to create awareness on issues of HIV/AIDS and sensitize the mainstream society on MSM/Tg issues. The effort of the group is to reach out to larger audiences with the help of three scripts that have been developed within HST. The process of various BCC methods was documented as the BCC strategy of HST in the third phase of the IMPACT project in 2004. For more information on the BCC strategy please refer to the HST BCC strategy in the resource material section.
